So, the Car Nuts got together on 8/12
(Friday) to do general maintenance on the dragster, and some trailer
updates.
It only made sense that we go to the track and see if we did
everything correctly. So off we went to The Gasser Series Race at
Empire Dragway (what a great time) on 8/13 (Saturday). There were
dire predictions of rain, and boy was there ever a lighting display
all around the track. We got three qualifying runs in and went
enough rounds in racing that we were in the money. Bob finally shut
the track down (no rain) and suggested that people return to the
pits and pack up. We left and ran into extremely heavy rain only
after travelling about half way home.
The primary driver is still down with a back problem.
The Throttle Stop Racing Team is so professional that we actually
have a licensed NHRA driver that is tall enough to substitute for
me.
Our substitute driver (David Shaff) has had some seat time in this
dragster before, and put in a great showing (Got into the money). He
was number three qualifier out of ten cars in our class with a 5.569
second run at 126.13 MPH in the 1/8 mile with a best time of 5.535
at 124.30. I know that it looks strange that the best time had a
slower MPH but that happens when you get a good launch.
Club racing is this coming this Wednesday night. At this point in
time it is not clear if the primary driver for the Throttle Stop
Racing Team will be well enough to drive. Either way the Throttle
Stop Racing team will be there. The celebrated substitute driver
once again will be there, come on out and get his autograph, and
support you club. The club racing series is a tight contest right
now and we need your support. This month because of July’s rain out
there will be two club racing events this one on August 17 and a
second make up race on August 31.
