Well although a good deal of
time was spent this weekend on the Jeep there is really
not a lot to show for the time. The biggest step forward
was the grill being put in place. The paint match is
pretty good, better in life then in the photos |
 |
In order to put the grill in place the core support
bushing had to be saved as I have not been able to find
a source for a new one. The metal parts (other then the
bolt) were all sand blasted and powder coated. I had to
reuse the rubber. |

The grill has seven captured nuts in it, the threads in
all of them were chased. |

The radiator was installed
and a new fan shroud was installed. This one fits better
than the last one but there are still problems. The area
above the fan has too much flex in it and I will have to
stiffen it up somehow. |

The wires for the pickup in
the distributor were damaged with 3M quick connects so
the pickup was removed and a new one was installed. I
have purchased the MSD connector that will allow the MSD
box to be connected to the stock connector without
having to splice into the wire ring harness |

In the same train of tasks I
was going to clean up this tapped up wire off the back
of the alternator. I unwrapped it and found a diode. Did
a search on the JeepFourm and was told that it was
needed for the MSD box because of the way the stock Jeep
wiring was engineered. With out it the engine will keep
running after the key is shut off. I incased the whole
thing in shrink rap to make it look like a normal wire,
then covered that with black wire loom. I
don't like it, but can think of no other way to handle
it.

So this is where we are at
as of now. We did get the carb bolted on and have
figured out how to wire the choke |
