Ok, a number of small tasks completed, first one to
report. I have taken a Jeep that
originally came with a soft top with no door restraints.
Purchased some restrains on e-bay, sand blasted them,
and powder coated them
The powder was not the correct color, I
ordered it from a color sample on the computer. I have
had them send me samples an this one looks pretty close.
I will order a pound of that and see what it looks like.
Painted the bolts that hold the pins in
place. (Hint a good way to paint bolts is take a scrape
piece of plywood. Drill a bunch of holes the right size
for different bolts, stick the bolts in the holes and
paint the heads. Keeps your hand and threads clean of
paint).
And now the Jeep is equipped with the door restrain
brackets, so when the doors come back from paint jail
they will not get all scratched up by hitting the
mirrors.
The next task was to install
the replacement steering gear box
This is the new steering gear box shipped
back to me for the defective one sent back (Morris 4X4
paid the return shipping)
Paint it up really nice.
Fill this empty space.
With the new gear box
Spent some
time today and painted up the new springs. I want to try
and keep the "Stock" look. I also remove the u-bolts and
cut an inch off of them so they do not stick through the
skid plates
Note that the u-bolts have been cut so that they no
longer extend below the spring skid plate
The rear springs were not spared
my attention either. I also sanded down the rear frame
member that the original trailer hitch was bolted to and
painted that also. The old trailer wiring has also been
removed. I have to come up with a new bumper. I am
thinking of the old style miitary bumperets.
