Time to take it further apart. I want to
powder coat the axle housing so it has the be completely stripped.
These backing plates are really ugly anyway. |

I get asked this question a lot. How do you remove the bushings from
the axle housing. I grind of the lip of the bushing and then use a
ball joint push the bushing out.

Here is a picture of the bushing pushed as far
out as it will go with the ball joint press. Now just a few taps
with an air chisel and the bushing falls out. |

New parts are arriving. I will have to repaint
these to the correct blue-gray color. (El Caminos came from the
factory with rear air shock) |
