Next
task, as I see it, is to get the engine located. I need
to do this so that I know where the driveshaft will be
located and what the pinion angle will be. Before I left
for the Hot Rod Institute I put together a mock up of
the engine and the transmission. That consisted of a
hollowed out 454 and a short tail shaft trubo 400
transmission
I
set the engine in place between the frame rails with
blocks and tried to get a feel for where the driveshaft
would end up, gave up and decided to locate it
permanently.
With the engine setting on blocks
between the rails I was not happy with the style of
engine mounts I had. I purchased a different set of
mount from SpeedWay and like the looks of them much
better.These mounts needed some brackets fabricated to attach
them to the chassis (this is after all a chassis
fabrication class) So out came the cardboard. I have to
thank Kyle Harder for his assistance here.
Note that the frame has once again
been reinforced with plating before the brackets have
been welded on
